It all started in 1986. That was the year that I decided what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. No matter what any teachers, friends or family said to me about my dream, I stayed focused and followed my heart. I graduated High School in 1990 and headed to St Cloud Beauty College. I worked full-time and went to college 3/4 time. I was employed at Heinen’s Hairstying before I graduated. The Monday after I graduated I started my first job as a licensed stylist. My first job was a fast paced walk-in style salon. It was a family owned salon and there were under 20 employees. I was able to go to lots of educational classes and events. I learned an incredible amount in the first 4 years of my Career. The owner of the salon really helped me understand professionalism and ethics. Truly what they meant in my business. My next adventure was at JCPenney Salon. This atmosphere was entirely different than my first job. One of the years that I was employed our store made 1,000,000, which in 1994 was still considered a lot of money! I was co-workers with over 50 stylists not to mention the number of receptionists. My manager was inspiring and such a great role model. She always had her lipstick applied and always dressed professionally. She encouraged me to take the next step into Management even though it wasn’t at her salon. So another adventure was on the horizon for me. I took the assistant Manager position at Hair Specialist. This was a huge learning experience for me. I mostly learned what not to do. From there I took the manager position at Dayton’s Hair Salon. There I was back at a Big Box store where I was working 9am-9pm almost every day except Saturday and Sunday. After 2 years of management I decided I could go out on my own and try leasing a station. That’s what I did, it lasted for 2 more years. Like a song on repeat I learned what not to do. Thats what made me take the leap to building my own leasing salon. Business was good so I opened a second location. At one time I had 14 stylists. For the next 10 years I worked a lot while raising my 3 children. Then I made the best decision I’ve ever made. I closed both salons and went back to renting a chair and focused on raising my family. I always had the intention of building another salon but I wanted to take my time a do it better this time. For 7 years I was patiently waiting for my next opportunity. Then I found this amazing space with the help from a close friend. That’s when plan began for what exists now.
